Invest in Canada is looking for a Director of Finance to lead Invest in Canada’s accounting, finance and procurement team. This role is responsible for managing all aspects of accounting operations, financial reporting, budgeting, internal controls and auditing as well as overseeing the successful procurement of goods and services. This role advises employees, including senior leadership as well as leads the audit committee of the board of directors on the organization’s requirements as a Government of Canada departmental corporation, based on applicable statues, rules and regulations. This position holds the title of Deputy Chief Financial Officer reporting to the Chief Operating Officer and manages a team of four positions at various levels.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Primary responsibilities for this role may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Oversees accounting operations and financial reporting within Invest in Canada’s unique corporate structure and regulations.
  • Leads all procurement activities including overseeing the process, collaborating with internal teams of contracts, and ensuring the timely and efficient fulfillment of contract requests.
  • Manages and leads the budgeting, planning and forecasting including monthly budget meeting with leadership and active participation in the business planning process.
  • Coordinates financial reporting with various public authorities including the Treasury Board Secretariat and the Receiver General for Canada.
  • Prepares materials for senior leadership and the Board of Directors including financial reviews and internal audit documents.
  • Presents internal audit plans and findings, and financial updates at the Board Audit Committee.
  • Advises internal teams with their day-to-day activities such as the interpretation of financial policies, Government of Canada policies and practices, and support on any logistic decisions.

Requirements:

  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation required.
  • 10+ years of professional experience in finance and procurement.  
  • 3-5 years of experience of people management experience.  
  • Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Business Administration or related field
  • Strong knowledge of the Government of Canada’s fiscal framework and procurement practices.
  • Excellent ability to think critically and identify reasonable solutions within a framework.
  • Excellent ability to communicate and present complex topics and trends in a simple and clear way. 
  • Strong client-focus approach with the ability to develop internal and external working relationships.
  • Business acumen and ability to influence others by fostering strong relationships to be able to bring teams together to reach consensus and plans to deliver results.
  • Solid leadership and people management experience.
