Natural Advantages
in Canada

Canada is a global energy superpower: home to the resources, innovation and expertise the world needs. Already among the world’s top five oil and natural gas producers, Canada is also developing its non-GHG emitting energy resources. A powerhouse mining sector includes a wealth of critical minerals essential for clean technologies. And more than one-third of the world’s certified sustainable forests are in Canada.

Backed by advanced R&D capabilities and strong collaboration between industry, universities and world-class research institutes, Canada offers the expertise to power your investment. Its commitment to environmental, social and governance (ESG) principles further positions Canada as a global leader in the natural resources sector.

Mining and critical minerals

Canada is a global mining powerhouse, rich in mineral resources and opportunities. In addition to abundant mineral deposits, the mining sector is built on geoscience expertise and a deep pool of highly skilled workers.

Many of the world’s top mining companies choose Canada for its wealth of base metals, critical minerals and precious metals. They are also drawn by Canada’s firm commitment to ESG standards in mining.

Oil and gas

Canada is the fifth largest producer of natural gas, and a vast network of natural gas pipelines supplies the U.S. market. Building on this strength, liquefied natural gas (LNG) is emerging as a growing export. Canada’s first LNG shipment was made in June 2025. Other LNG projects are planned in British Columbia.

In addition to natural gas, the country produces 5.1 million barrels of crude oil per day, making it the world's fourth largest producer. Canada also has the world’s most proven oil reserves open to private investment.

The Canadian oil and gas sector is recognized for its commitment to cleaner, more efficient energy production.

Forestry

Canada is home to 9% of the world’s forests and 36% of the planet’s certified sustainable forests, giving it a strong foundation as a global forest leader. As demand continues to grow for wood products and sustainable, low‑carbon solutions, Canada remains a smart and competitive place to invest. The country is also a leading global manufacturer and exporter of forest products, including softwood lumber and newsprint.

To further strengthen the sector, the Government of Canada has launched a $500‑million investment fund, enabling businesses and organizations to innovate, diversify production and expand the use of Canadian wood through programs such as the Investments in Forest Industry Transformation (IFIT) program, the Green Construction Through Wood (GCWood) program, the Indigenous Forestry Initiative (IFI) and the Global Forest Leadership Program (GloFor).

Nuclear

Canada is the second largest producer of uranium worldwide, accounting for 24% of global supply. All production leverages Saskatchewan’s high-grade deposits, where the uranium concentrations are up to 100 times larger than the global average.

Canada combines decades of expertise – from R&D and isotope production to waste management – with a commitment to sustainability and safety. At the core of this leadership is the CANDU reactor, a Canadian-designed technology recognized globally for its reliability and efficiency.
