Introduction to Info Source
The purpose of Info Source: Sources of Federal Government and Employee Information is to provide information about the functions, programs, activities and related information holdings of government institutions that are subject to the Access to Information and Privacy Act. It provides individuals and employees of the government (current and former) with relevant information to access personal information about themselves held by government institutions subject to the Privacy Act and to exercise their rights under the Privacy Act.
The Introduction and a List of Institutions subject to the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act are available centrally.
The Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act assign overall responsibility to the President of Treasury Board (as the designated Minister) for the government-wide administration of the legislation.
Background
The Invest in Canada Hub (Invest in Canada or IIC) was launched on March 12, 2018 and is governed by its enabling legislation, the Invest in Canada Act. The organization is structured as a departmental corporation of the federal government and reports to Parliament through the Minister of International Trade, Export Promotion, Small Business and Economic Development.
Invest in Canada’s mandate, for the purpose of supporting economic prosperity and stimulating innovation in Canada, is to: (a) promote foreign direct investment in Canada and attract and facilitate that investment; and (b) coordinate the efforts of the government, the private sector and other stakeholders with respect to foreign direct investment in Canada.
Responsibilities
Invest in Canada is responsible for leading the Government of Canada’s foreign direct investment (FDI) attraction efforts by making Canada top-of-mind for foreign investors and providing services in support of investor decisions to expand in Canada. To do this, Invest in Canada focuses on promoting Canada as a premier investment destination to international audiences through advertising campaigns, thoughtful content in various print and digital media, and events. Invest in Canada also builds and maintains relationships with current and potential investors to promote FDI in Canada, developing relationships with partners, and coordinating and providing advisory services to accelerate key investments. Invest in Canada also provides key insights, research, data and analytics to support intelligence-driven decisions across the organization and for stakeholders, in support of prospective investments.
Institutional Functions, Programs and Activities
Marketing
Invest in Canada’s Marketing program contributes to advancing Invest in Canada’s mandate of promoting Canada as a premier destination for FDI. Program priorities include increasing awareness of Canada as an investment destination in target markets, accelerating consideration of target sectors, and leading and convening partners. Invest in Canada Marketing program carries out advertising campaigns, develops investment content to increase awareness and consideration of Canada as an investment destination, increases awareness of the positive impact of FDI in Canadian communities, and leverages events that advance Invest in Canada’s mandate.
Marketing Specific Class of Records
Description: Records include information on the organization’s foreign direct investment (FDI) attraction and promotion activities; marketing products and tools and other support related to attracting FDI; content and copy for communications and advertising; and major international and domestic events information.

Investor Services
Invest in Canada’s Investor Services program is responsible for building and maintaining relationships with current and potential investors to promote foreign direct investment in Canada and developing relationships with FDI partners. The organization provides customized service to global investors from key markets to accelerate large-scale, transformational investments for Canada, while bringing together key Government of Canada departments and relevant partners. Investor Services also facilitate and support reinvestment and net new projects across provinces, territories and municipalities and work closely with regional economic development organizations on investment-focused priorities.

Invest in Canada’s Data Partnerships and Pan-Canadian Collaboration program provides key insights, research, data and analytics to support intelligence-driven investment decisions across the organization and for stakeholders, produces knowledge products, and supports the implementation of innovative technology for the organization and stakeholders.

Internal Services
Internal services constitute groups of related activities and resources that are administered to
support the needs of programs and other corporate obligations of an organization. Internal services include only those activities and resources that apply across an organization and not to those provided specifically to a program.
Acquisition Services
Acquisition services involve activities undertaken to acquire a good or service to fulfill a properly completed request (including a complete and accurate definition of requirements and certification that funds are available) until entering into or amending a contract.
Communications Services
Communications services involve activities undertaken to ensure that Government of Canada communications are effectively managed, well coordinated and responsive to the diverse information needs of the public. The communications management function ensures that the public—domestic or international—receives government information, and that the views and concerns of the public are taken into account in the planning, management and evaluation of policies, programs, services and initiatives.
Financial Management Services
Financial management services involve activities undertaken to ensure the prudent use of public resources, including planning, budgeting, accounting, reporting, control and oversight, analysis, decision support and advice, and financial systems.
Human Resources Management Services
Human resources management services involve activities undertaken for determining strategic direction, allocating resources among services and processes, as well as activities relating to analyzing exposure to risk and determining appropriate countermeasures. They ensure that the service operations and programs of the federal government comply with applicable laws, regulations, policies and plans.
